1967 Rolex Submariner 5513 Matte Meters First Zinc Sulfide Dial - $19,999
This example of the Rolex Submariner reference 5513 “Meters First” captures a compelling moment in the evolution of Rolex’s iconic dive watch, blending classic tool-watch design with a brief transitional phase in luminous technology. This watch has a 1.69M serial, dating case production to 1967. Its matte black “Meters First” dial features early transitional zinc sulfide (ZnS) luminous material—often called “Day-Glow” by collectors—which fluoresces bright green under UV light, with the lume plots developing a beautiful mustard-yellow patina. The bezel insert displays the desirable “long 5” typography on the minute track, a hallmark of early 5513 examples. The movement is stamped with a ROW import code for the U.S. market, adding a subtle but notable element of provenance. The watch is fitted with a C&I riveted bracelet dated “7-68” (July 1968), with minimal stretch. The case has been previously polished yet retains thick, even lugs with the original bevels still visible. This piece is offered as watch only.
