We are pleased to present this exceptional Mk IV Rolex Submariner Date, reference 1680, better known to collectors as the iconic “Red Submariner.” Dating to circa 1972, as indicated by its 3.09 million serial range, this example represents a compelling example of one of vintage Rolex’s most celebrated sports watches. The classic 40mm stainless steel case appears to be unpolished and retains strong proportions, with thick lugs and excellent overall presence. The case frames a highly coveted Mk IV Feet First dial, distinguished by its red lettering on white and distinctive open “6” in the depth rating. The matte black dial remains in excellent vintage condition, with the tritium lume aged to a warm, buttery patina. The original tritium hands show signs of oxidation. The Fat Font bezel insert remains in very nice condition, retaining a deep black color, toasty lume pip, and numbers faded to a slight gold hue. Completing the watch is an original Rolex 9315 folded-link bracelet with a 1-70 clasp code (January 1970), 380 end links, and dive extension. The bracelet retains 10 links and exhibits some stretch consistent with age. This timepiece is in very nice condition for its age, with superficial scratching throughout the case and bracelet, along with minor dinging to the sides of the case.
