On October 3rd, 1962, the Speedmaster CK 2998 made history as the first OMEGA to be worn in space, when astronaut Walter Schirra wore his personal watch during the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury program. This updated version pays tribute to that iconic timepiece, capturing the essence of the second-generation Speedmaster with a modern twist.

The 39.70 mm case, with the reference 310.30.40.50.06.001, is crafted from a mix of polished and brushed stainless steel, and is paired with a “flat links” bracelet featuring OMEGA’s patented comfort release adjustment system. The bezel is made of black aluminum and sports the legendary tachymeter scale, complete with the iconic “Dot Over Ninety” detail.

Underneath the new hesalite-like sapphire crystal, the grey-blue dial is CVD coated to mimic the hue of some CK 2998 models from the 1960s. The dial features vintage Super-LumiNova-filled indexes and hour/minute “Alpha” hands, while the central seconds “Baton” hand is white varnished to complement the transferred markings. The subdials include a 30-minute recorder at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour recorder at 6 o’clock, and a small-seconds display at 9 o’clock.

A vintage OMEGA logo is applied to both the dial and the crown, while the caseback features the iconic Seahorse medallion, along with the engravings, “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962. Powering the watch is the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, the latest evolution of the Calibre 321 that astronauts wore during their space missions. The watch is accompanied by its original outer box, special edition inner box, OMEGA Speedmaster booklet, dust cloth, OMEGA operating instructions booklet, International Warranty card, dated in 2024, Master Chronometer card, and Pictograms card. The condition of this timepiece is excellent, showing extremely minor signs of wear.
